On the eve of 6th August, PeaceWorks in collaboration with Scholastic hosted children’s author Anushka Ravishankar. She read out her newly published books to a group of children from Nabadisha and Disha Foundation and the volunteers of our story telling project— Share Stories Open Minds.
‘Rumour’ and ‘A Boy Who Drew Cats’ were read out by the author and translated into Bengali by Purbani Das. What a wonder adept storytelling and beautiful illustration can do! It brought the world of fantasy alive for the children.
Rumour is the story of a grumpy little man while The Boy Who Drew Cats was laced with simplicity and humour. It was about a little boy who loved drawing cats and did little else. At the end of the story a girl from the audience raised her scrawny little hand and announced that she too would like to do the same.
Inspired, more children started interacting and participating and couple of them narrated stories as well. Funny and animated, these stories revealed the inherent storytelling ability of the children and the impact our project has had upon them.
